This picture is a relationship of color planes in a wonderful art installation by Cildo Meireles titled "Pling Pling" The installation consists of 6 connected rooms of solid colors with a video screen in each one that slowly changes colors. A magnificent example of deDtijl and it helps express my thoughts on the theory that everything is defined by the elements around it.

This particular image is actually a double exposure. One vertical and one horizontal with the light trails of a person walking through the room.

Linda and I had driven down to St. Petersburg for the day to see the History of Photography exhibit at SPMFA. They had some wonderful work there. I remember some very cool stereographic pictures. This shot shows the new wing of the museum by architect Yann Weymouth which was just opened to the public in March 2008.

We stopped here for about an hour during our long drive home to Mons, Belgium from la Biennale di Venezia 2009. They had free Wi-Fi! YAY! We hadn't had internet access since we left Belgium.

We stayed at this great bed & breakfast on the mainland of Venice during our trip in July, 2009 for la Biennale art festival. There was a skylight in our 3rd floor room and at 11 am our first morning there was a perfect shadow cast from the handle of the window.

This image gives me the impression of a hatchway directly to the sky, which I suppose is actually the definition of what a skylight is. But this just seems a bit more dramatic somehow.

We were exhausted from our 21 hour drive from Belgium. Traffic was backed up in Switzerland as a long tunnel was being repaired and only allowing one way traffic to take turns. So after one CP shot at Redentore the night before - this was my 2nd shot on the Venice trip.

Walking with my wife Linda to the Sunday street market in Mons, Belgium, I stopped at this closed-up storefront with a nice Bauhaus / deStijl type adornment on the front. Made this nice MIO shot of the circular windows and yellow grid

Walking around my town of Mons, Belgium with a photographer friend Patty Iniguez we came across this really cool house on Rue d'Enghien with so many cool things showing through the window. Masks, marionettes, dolls, a giant ship and more. Tried to make a few images showing the odd objects and the reflection of the street.

Visiting Brussels with my new friend Benoit Geets who runs a great coffee shop in Mons (la Livre de Café.) He gave me a introductory tour of his favorite city. First stop was the Atomium, an architectural marvel built for the 1958 Brussels World's Fair "Expo '58". Designed by André Waterkeyn, it is 102-metres (335 ft) tall, with nine steel spheres connected so that the whole forms the shape of a unit cell of an iron crystal magnified 165 billion times. From Wikipedia.

This image looks up one of the "futuristic" staircase that connects two of the giant spheres.

Last day of 08 - St. Pete & Sick Electric Zip?

Needless to say I didn't get the chance to photograph the girl with the Polaroid tattoos or I would have posted the photos. She realized she had an earlier flight (or at least that's what she told the creepy old guy who wanted to take pictures of her), and she said she would call when she comes back from LA in several months.

I did try one more Holgaroid, HR No. 3, this time outside on the dock using what appears to be the landscape setting on the lens, but this turned out even blurrier than the rest, so I suppose I'll need to set up some kind of measured shot with points of focus at specific intervals to figure out where it is focusing.

Today I took 3 cameras down to St. Petersburg with the intent to get a few last pictures shot in 2008. Big Shot (Polacolor 100 film), Electric Zip (VIVA 125 film) and SX-70 Alpha I SE (600& 779). Got one nice shot off with the EZ but then the shutter wouldn't trip for a second shot. ??? I hope it isn't kaput... It just feels as though the shutter button isn't catching to trip the shutter. I hope I can fix it because that was my favorite camera of the moment.

Shot 2 SX-70 pix of an interesting purple & yellow painted architectural element while waiting for a Mojo Chicken Cuban Sandwich at Tangelo's Grill on 1st Avenue North (YUMALISHOUS!). Tried to shoot one of this with the Big Shot but it was too dark for the 100 film. Then wandered around the edges of Baywalk to find something interesting. Found a few cool industrial elements to shoot with the SX-70 on the 779 film (that is turning out to be pretty dull so far - expired 2005) and was accosted by a security guard who didn't give me any trouble after looking at my "artwork."

I made it to the car with 3 minutes to spare on my 90 minute spot and drove back up to Starbucks on Little Road (my new haunt) to work on my cataloging. Met a cool kid there who was interested in my Polaroids, shoots some herself. I might give her one of my thrift store cameras as she said her One Step has broken. Shot a photo of her and her friend that works at Starbucks with the Big Shot to show her how PackFilm works. The Magicube I had in the BG wouldn't fire so I plugged in a new one and it fired right away. That was my last shot of 2008.

Here's hoping the Electric Zip magically works in 2009...
